BC Fest 2024 Rewind: 7 Unforgettable Music Moments
BCFest 2024 has wrapped up, and I have to say it's been the best festival experience I've had so far. As I reflect, these 7 unforgettable music moments will stay with me until next summer. And if you missed it, maybe these highlights will convince you to grab next year's tickets.
1. Offset Joins Gunna
First up, Offset surprised everyone by joining Gunna during the closing set on Day 2. I am pretty sure no one outside of the planning committee expected this guest appearance, but the abundance of screams heard from the floor and stands when he ran out to perform their two hits together—“Prada Dem” and “Style Rare”—made it clear that it was a welcomed surprise. Their energy was infectious and made the moment unforgettable.
2. Megan Thee Stallion's Hot Girl Summer Vibes
Megan brought the excitement of her Hot Girl Summer tour to her closing set on Day 1. Though it wasn’t my first time catching her live, she continues to surpass previous performances. Her connection with the audience and overall show keeps improving, making her set the best festival closer I've witnessed in a long time. As always, her entire performance held me captive; my feet stayed rooted, and my wide grin never wavered. It's moments like these that live on because I will never forget the trance she put me in.
3. Kaytranada’s Refreshing Set
Kaytranada’s set on the second day was like a gust of fresh wind, breaking away from the usual main stage lineup. He played his top dance/electric hits, mixing tracks from both recent and past albums. Even though his performance was cut short, the entire time felt like pure joy. The energy of his music radiated euphoria and brought listeners to their happiest selves. From where I stood in MVP, it was clear the crowd's spirits were lifted during the entire set. Kaytranada is undoubtedly my favorite DJ and producer, hearing his music live was such a Blessing to experience.
4. Victoria Monét’s Impressive Dance Performance
Seeing Victoria Monét for the first time was truly memorable. I had no idea what to expect, but her choreographed routines, impeccable vocal control, and captivating stage presence left a lasting impression. Even her backup dancers were phenomenal. Plus, her well-toned abs and arms subtly hinted at her trainer's expertise. Her physique is just as remarkable as her vocal talent. The whole experience was mesmerizing, to say the least.
5. PartyNextDoor’s Sultry Set
PartyNextDoor's set felt like we were transported to one of the best RnB basement parties you've ever attended in your life. As soon as he took the stage, all you saw in the crowd were hands raised and hips swaying. It was the sultriest set of the show, creating a hypnotic atmosphere.
6. Sexyy Red’s Hometown Flavor
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Sexyy Red giving the DMV a taste of our hometown, St. Louis, MO. This was my third time seeing her perform live, and it never gets old. I appreciate her authenticity, which shines through in all her performances and interviews. Every time I see her do the Chickenhead on stage, I literally feel the spirit of my entire hometown taking the stage with her and cheering her on. Of note, Jordan Ward was also on the setlist for this year's BCFest lineup, so having two STL natives on the bill in the same year for a festival in the DMV made my heart smile.
7. Key Glock’s Tribute to Young Dolph
As a long-time fan of Young Dolph and Paper Route Empire, Key Glock's tribute to Dolph on Day 2 was heartfelt. He performed “Preach” and “Hundred Shots,” and the crowd rapped every word. It was a touching tribute that resonated deeply with fans.
The magic of festivals lies in reconnecting with artists live, associating their vibe with the music you love, or discovering new favorites. It sparks a desire to dive back into their music portfolio, rediscovering tracks that hit differently after seeing them in person. That's the beauty of live music—it rekindles your love for the artists. For the next week, I'll be diving back into the tunes and rekindling my admiration for all the talents I experienced over the weekend.
Thank you BCFest for the music and the memories. Can't wait for next summer!
